about
August 23rd, 2021 will mark one year since the tragic death of Mick Hart - a beautiful artist, musician, teacher and friend to so many.
Mick and I played many a show together growing up in the Sydney live music scene of the late 90’s / early 2000’s. I’ll always remember him as a warm and generous person with a brightness of presence and spirit.
Upon hearing the news of Mick’s passing I was shocked and deeply saddened. In response to the news I wrote this song – ‘I Could Have Been You’ – and had the pleasure of recording it together with Mick’s ex-band members Tony Chubb (Drums) and Damian Leonard (Bass).
The track was produced by Luke Bertoz who produced several of Mick’s albums and thanks also to Mick’s friend Ben Fink for his beautiful additional guitar work on the song.
Please share this song with anyone you know that was touched by Mick and his music.
All proceeds from the track will be donated to Support Act to help them in their work supporting the mental health and well being of artists throughout this difficult period.

lyrics
‘I Could Have Been You’
We hadn’t talked a while
But that’s just circumstance
In the end so much comes down to chance
I’m thinking back
How the years they flew
I always took you to be someone true
I heard you were gone
Now there is no turning back
And it breaks me down
To think you felt
There was nothing left to do
You could have been me
And I could have been you
Now I’m missing those days
We didn’t know our ways
But it felt good to be lost together
The salty spray and smell of cheap beer
We were singing just to keep our heads clear
I heard you were gone
Now there is no turning back
And it breaks me down
To think you felt
There was nothing left to do
You could have been me
And I could have been you
I’m taking solace
In putting pen to paper
Finding sparks in what you left behind
And it sure is a reminder that we have no control
In who doesn’t or who does
Stay inside your heart
A life incomplete
A story cut before the end
You live on in your music my friend
I heard you were gone
Now there is no turning back
And it breaks me down
To think you felt that it all had to end
You live on in your music my friend
